From The Principal:

Responsibility – One of the definitions of responsibility is –“being accountable for the care or welfare of another.” Responsibility also means being “answerable for one’s own behavior.” Either way, we as adults are responsible for our actions and are accountable for taking care of our young children. First and second graders are dependent upon adults for support, supervision and being good role models. All adults are role models for our children, but you as parents are the most important. It is your responsibility to communicate to and model for your child the importance of education. This includes making sure your child sees you reading and learning at home, being constantly aware of your child’s learning at school, helping him with homework, reading together every night and praising both effort and accomplishment.
There is an old saying, “It takes a Village to raise a child.” I know you want your child to be successful in school. We both know education is the key to success in life, as well. I promise you that the Southside staff is doing everything possible to ensure that success. We have to have your help. Together, we can make a difference.

Early Arrivals

Please do not bring your child to school prior to 7:30 a.m. Just this week, we had two students “dropped off” at 6:50 a.m. Some staff members (cafeteria, custodial, early birds and hard-working teachers) are here prior to 7:30. However, custodial and cafeteria staff are not responsible for supervision and teachers here early are in their classrooms working. I have seen a few parents waiting until 7:30 to let their students off and I appreciate your patience and concern for your child’s safety.

Important Information
Southside Visitors:

Parents, grandparents, and friends of Southside students are always welcome at our school. We ask that all visitors to our campus sign in at the office and receive a visitor’s nametag.

Absences:

When your child is absent, the day he/she returns to school, please send a parent or doctor note explaining the absence.

The district provides an opportunity to make up excessive absences at Saturday School.

Transportation Changes:

We do not allow a child to change transportation plans without a note or call from a parent. The note should include an address where the child should be dropped off at, the bus number (if known) and how many days this change will be in effect. If you call, please do so before 1:00 p.m.
