YMCA Youth & Government |
This is a program run by the YMCA to educate middle school and high school students about the principles of democratic government. The purpose of the Youth & Government Program is to prepare young people for moral and political leadership in the American democratic process by providing guidance, training, and experience in the theory and practice of determining public policy on the state level. It is called "a laboratory in citzenship and government." It also offers youth the opportunity to comprehend the meaning and importance of the personal experience with the Judicial branch of our state government.

Palestine Middle School - Jr. Youth & Government |
Three years ago the YMCA Youth & Government Program expanded to include a Legislative Junior Program available to 7th and 8th grade students.
If you have a passion for writing and arguing about today's issues, then this is where you want to be. In this branch you write a bill to change or add laws to make our state a better place. Once the bill is written, you then have to debate to get it passed to law. Some laws that were written by previous Youth & Government Participants and then passed through the Tx Government are "right turn on red", "mandatory vehicle registration", and "use of seat belts" to name a few.
Your bill could be next! So come join us!
